Pastille Coffee Table

These tables were made in collaboration with ceramist Natalie Weinberger. The tops started as cordiete kiln shelves that are commercially manufactured for for loading ceramic objects for ring. Weinberger developed new glaze recipes to cover the full surface of these shelves- a bright glossy red with subtle crackle pattern for the side table, and a contrasting matte black pitted glaze for the coffee table (other finishes are also available). The bases were designed by Vonnegut/Kraft and constructed using graphic stretchers that give dimension and optical illusions of moire patterns as the user/viewer moves around the piece, always creating a new perspective, pattern and asymmetry depending on location.
